How to Straighten a Frizzy Wig

Wigs can nicely decorate your hair, allowing you to try to have a new look or dress up in a Halloween costume. However, artificial wigs often become curly, and treating them like real hair may not always be effective. Not only to comb the wig, but also to use hand and wide-tooth comb, compliant spray or softener and different washing methods using gentle techniques to avoid tangling and straightening. If your wig can be heated, use a curling iron or hot air brush for further styling!
Using Detangling Products on a Dry Wig

  1. Put the wig on the model's head. If you don’t have a model head, you can use your knees or ask family members if they can wear wigs on their heads. Trying to straighten the wig without stabilizing the wig on the head can easily cause the wig to tangle.
  2. Use your fingers and a wide tooth comb to comb the ends of the wig. Use your hand to gently comb the wig and focus on the beginning of the hair is not knotted. You can also use a wide tooth comb to keep it smooth as long as you are gentle.
Using a fine-toothed comb or excessive brushing of the wig may increase the static electricity of the hair.
  3. Use a detangling spray or lotion. Take a small portion of the wig about 1 to 2 inches, and spray a small amount of no-knot spray on it.
When choosing sprays, look for products with the label "wig spray", "wig-detangling" or "hair-free detangling".
  4.  Gently comb the spray wig. Now start slowly combing the sprayed parts. If there is a knot, remove the comb and use your fingers to unblock. After resolving, continue to comb. Continue spraying and combing until you completely bypass the wig.
  5. If there is no tangled product, please use diluted fabric softener. The fabric softener can eliminate the static electricity that causes the artificial wig to curl. Make your own tangled product by mixing a 118ml cold water cup with a 118ml liquid fabric softener cup in a spray bottle. Spray it gently on the wig, covering each part, and then air dry.
Use heating tools for hot wigs
  6. Check if your wig can withstand the heat. Many artificial wigs do not respond well to heat. When you open the lid of a hot oven or try to dry them, some may melt. Before using any heated hair styling tool on the wig, make sure to check its label.
Look for phrases "thermally like friendly" or "heat-resistant". If you don’t have a wig, you don’t have to risk burning your wig.
Preheat the flat iron at the lowest temperature. Even if your wig is thermally friendly, choose the lowest heat to avoid damaging your wig. If the flat iron is set too high, the wig may melt. Wait a few minutes until the iron is hot enough.
Ideally the temperature of the flat iron shouldn't exceed 240° F (116° C).
